druze holidays
The Druze is a religious community found primarily in Syria Lebanon and Israel whose traditional religion is said to have begun as an offshoot of the Ismaili sect of Islam. The Arab Druze in Israel are mostly in the Galilee (70%) and around Haifa (25%).
Holiday of al-Nabi Shuayb
this holiday is the most important one for the Druze. It starts at the 24th of April and is running for 4 days. It is custom to come to the tomb of al-Nabi Shuayb near Tiberius and to pray. On the first day it’s open only for religious people and for the other 3 days it’s for everybody (Druze only).
The Druze believes that ITRO (the
father-in-law of Moses) and nabi shuayb are the same
person.
